Fran Pettijohn Award

Fran Pettijohn was a long time duplicate player. She was the first woman in Indiana to become a Diamond Life Master (5000 points). She had served on the IBC, CIBA and WCC boards and she was President of the latter two. When she passed away in 2000 the IBC Board decided to establish a yearly award in her honor. They determined that the winner should exemplify her outstanding qualities. These qualities included kindness at the bridge table, being an ambassador for bridge, encouraging new and inexperienced players and being involved in our club. There are plaques with the name of the winner each year.  The previous winners determine who the winner will be.

Mary King 2025 Fran Pettijohn Winner

Congratulations Mary! Photos below. Here are some of the ways she contributes:

  • Making boards for everyday games
  • Managing boards for tournaments, STAC, other special games
  • Coordinating the board makers
  • Managing all our sets of boards and decks of cards
  • Working on setup and cleanup for parties and other events
  • Coming in to play on short-notice when called so we can avoid sit-outs
  • Being nice to an idiot director who forgot to latch a case and dropped all the boards, breaking a few
  • Generally being there to help

Thanks again for all you do!
