Board Update – mostly August 2024

Dear Indianapolis Bridge Center (IBC) Members:

I hope you enjoyed the Labor Day holiday weekend and also hope that “better late than never” applies to my monthly communication with you. Most of August was spent on vacation with my family in Michigan. When I returned, I had four full days of no internet, tv, or phone thanks to an outdated copper wiring problem in the main AT&T box.

Big congratulations to our two Novices of the Month (NOM), Richard Graham and Jan Kilies, and to Wagner Van Vlack, our Player of the Month (POM).

We continue to exceed our financial goals with more than 440 paid members and 497 F2F tables in July.

Thanks to all of you we are advancing our mission to promote the learning and playing of bridge for all levels of players. The Mentoring Program starts this month. A generous $3000 grant from the Indiana Bridge Foundation (IBF) covered the cost of our free summer classes which had good attendance again. THANK YOU to IBF!

IBC Club Manager, Sharon Austin, reported that it will cost about $800 to replace the damaged chairs in the back room. Sharon also told us that Management is considering adding a once-a-month team game on Saturday afternoons, The first trial game is scheduled for September 14.

Reminders:

  • Saturday evening, September 7, is a Back To School Night with food at 5:30 and game at 6:30. Wear your favorite college or high school clothing and bring a side dish to help make it another fun party.
  • Please wear your IBC name badges when playing at IBC. I know many of you know most of the people who play in your games but it is a courtesy when there are new players, or guests/visitors.
  • Our game directors have many tasks and duties during a game, including making coffee and cleaning after the games. Your help would be greatly appreciated if you can throw away your own trash (use recycle bins), push in your chairs, and refill coffee pots when possible
  • Women’s Contract Club Opening Party is Thursday, September 12. It’s not too late to get a partner for the party or to join for the year. Contact the Treasurer, Sharon Murphy.

As always, take care and hope to see you soon at IBC.

Andie Marshall, IBC Board President
