September 11, 2024
Dear Indianapolis Bridge Center (IBC) Members:
The board met on September 9 and I have lots of good news to share.
Congratulations to our August Novice of the Month (NOM), Peter Schindel, whose party is scheduled for October 22 at 6:30 for the 0-200 game. Tom Koralewski is the Player of the Month (POM) and his party date has yet to be determined. The POM party for Wagner Van Vlack (July’s winner) is October 9 at the 11:00 Open Game.
Thanks to Susan May, Board Membership Chair, and a great committee for a successful Back-to-School Saturday night social game. There were twelve full tables and good food, cards, and company were enjoyed by all. We plan on continuing these Saturday night theme games every other month.
Reminder of our five-year business plan four priority goals (thanks to the late Jim Rowen, Pam Rhine, the board’s Finance Committee, and our IBC staff’s hard work):
- 400 paid, annual members – currently at 432 surpassing 2023;
- 400 tables per month – 495 in August and have surpassed that goal every month;
- 40 new members annually – and we are meeting that with the help of IBF and our free summer classes; and,
- Maintaining an Operating Reserve (contingency) sufficient for us to “stay open” for nine to twelve months during an emergency and we now have that!
Watch for these and please participate:
- Swiss Team at the 11:00 Open Game this Saturday, September 14. Sign-up sheets are posted.
- “He’s back!” Robert Todd will be teaching two sessions each day on October 13 and 14, Saturday and Sunday, IBC is very fortunate that he agreed to add us to his busy teaching schedule. Watch for a flyer to be distributed soon. My personal experience is that his classes are more suited for players with 20+ master points but check with Sharon or Matt. They can describe the content to you. His classes with us pre-Covid were very popular and highly rated.
- Annual Membership Meeting and election of Board of Directors: Saturday, November 2.
AMENDMENT CHANGE TO IBC BYLAWS
In accordance with procedures outlined in the Bylaws (Article X), the Board of Directors has voted to approve an amendment that reduces the number of its directors from eleven (11) to nine (9), effective January 01, 2025. As a board we have been working to assess and comply with the standard/best practices and policies expected of nonprofit organizations. The recommended size of boards for organizations comparable to IBC is three (3) to nine (9). We think that nine
directors will definitely be able to fulfill the board’s responsibilities and tasks.
Reminders:
Please wear your IBC name badges when playing at IBC and use the recycle bins.
As always, thanks for your support and hope to see you at a table soon at IBC.
Andie Marshall, IBC Board President
