Board Update – October 2024

Dear Indianapolis Bridge Center (IBC) Members:

Thank you to IBC Management for continuing to set the leadership model for bridge education and lifelong learning by bringing Rober Todd back to IBC. Thanks to all of you who attended one or both days. He commented multiple times that IBC is fortunate to have an attractive and comfortable site with accessible parking that can hold daily games. Our location is a true asset but it’s also an expensive one and we need your ongoing support to maintain it.
We continue to meet our financial goals (505 F2F players in September). The $50 annual membership fee is due before January 1, so you can start paying anytime. If you currently are not a member, join now and get fourteen months for the price of twelve. Our business plan is based upon securing a minimum of 400 paid members with 40 new members annually.

The Finance Committee, Larry Cohen – Chair, and Nick Curott – Treasurer, and staff are developing the 2025 budget for board approval. The board has made one policy change for budgeting.  As you may know, we went several years without giving raises to staff. If financial resources allow, the board policy now is that annual budgeting will include 3% raises for the Management Team – Club Manager, Assistant Club Manager, and Bridge Operations Director.

Congratulations to Scott Birnbaum, September’s Novice of the Month (NOM), and Steve Rubenstein, September’s Player of the Month (POM).

REMINDERS:                                                                                                                                                1. Annual Membership Meeting is Saturday, November 2, at 12:30. Be sure to vote for the board candidates. Ballots and the ballot box are in the back hallway at IBC. Absentee ballots are available on the website (click here) and must be received before November 2. The 1:00 game after the annual meeting is free for everyone who is seated by 12:30, so come early.
2. Please wear your name tags.                                                                                                                                 3. IBC has a “no perfume” policy which includes cologne for men. We have several members with allergic reactions that can cause serious breathing problems.                                                            4. Don’t forget that Ask Bridgette is not just for etiquette or protocol questions. If you don’t understand bridge jargon or abbreviations, just ask her. Click here to submit your questions.

The Membership Committee’s Saturday Night “Social” games have been a successful mix of NLM and LM players. Yea! Saturday, November 16, and will be a Chili Dinner. Watch for more details about helping with food or contact Susan May, Membership Chair.

Please read Joyce Pepple’s (Communications and Marketing Co-Chair) weekly email updates about special games, newsy tidbits, scheduled events, etc.

The team games on Saturdays are off to a great start. Be sure to check the calendar (posted at IBC and on the website) for the schedule. Get a team together and give it a try.

As always, BIG thank you for all you do and give.
