Board Meeting Update

May 03, 2023

From IBC Board President, Andie Marshall:

Lots of “news” this month. As always we are going to need your support and participation to help us continue to meet our goals. In compliance with ACBL’s policy change, proof of Covid vaccination will no longer be required starting May 15.  Please contact those you know who did not play at IBC because we required the proof of vaccination. Tell them they have been missed and encourage them to return! Mark your calendars in red for The Longest Day on June 21-lots of things will be happening!!!

The new, monthly University Challenge kicked off in April.  It was a Purdue Day but the Butler team was the overall winner.  This is Sharon’s creative idea and she is the best person to explain how it works.  I am sure she will be promoting/explaining it more each month.  IU Day is next.

Do not forget that IBC is the site this weekend for the District 11 Spring Sectional. Being the host site is a benefit to IBC for financial and many other reasons. We hope you will be able to play at least once. There are Open and Limited games on Friday and Saturday at 9:30am and 2:30pm.  Sunday’s Open and Limited Swiss Team sessions are 9:30am and 2:30pm with a single session 49ers Game at 2:30pm.

The Membership Committee’s survey has been completed and IBC members again demonstrated why IBC is an exceptional bridge center.  More than 190 responses were received – nearly 50% of our paid membership, far surpassing the expected response rate for such surveys.  The data has been analyzed and trends identified.  Jeff Running is our “go to” board member if you have specific questions. Based on the survey responses and our capacity to provide some of your suggestions, these are a few things that will be implemented and monitored asap:
1. Members want morning games to begin earlier so beginning in July, the Friday morning games will start at 9:30 and 10:00 am.   We will track the player numbers for three months to see if there is an increase in player numbers for those games.
2.  Free Beginner Classes will continue to be offered once annually with the next one in the fall.

3.  The Membership Committee will develop a Social Bridge Day and a new Five Buck Up Game.   Pam Rhine, Chair, will be sending you more information as soon as their times and other details are finalized. Both promise to be fun and, fingers crossed, to increase/enhance player participation.                                                                                                                                                                   4. Katherine Miller, Communications and Marketing Chair, is working with our webmaster and other US bridge clubs to find options for improving the partnership desk function on our website. We will keep you informed of the progress.

Watch for the new weekly joke/good feeling item in “Perry’s Picks” on the website.  We are also seeking a few of you who like to take pictures to volunteer to photograph special events and people. This is an as needed situation.  We just want a list of people that we could contact to see if they would be available.   It is not a permanent, ongoing commitment.  Contact Joyce Pepple if you would help.

Our technology audit is almost completed and we should have a report for you in June.

Our monthly 1600 player goal of was exceeded in April. Members paying annual dues goal is 400 and we now have 419 and the number keeps growing. New members are becoming regular weekly players. Total income for March was $24,475 and expenses were $22,869 for a favorable balance of $1,607. Congratulations to Rookie of the Month, Katherine Benedict, and Player of the Month, Darrow Neves!

April was a good month; let’s work together to make May even better.  Hope to see you at the tables soon.
Andie Marshall, IBC Board President
