Board Meeting Update

Dear IBC Members and Friends:

It is my honor to serve one more year as President of the IBC Board of Directors. A list of our board members, officers, and staff is posted on the main bulletin board at IBC and, of course, on our website in the “About Us” section. Please visit it regularly for up-to-date information. Click here to view the website.

On behalf of the board, may 2023 be a happy and healthier new year for all!
Good communication with you remains a high priority for our board. This year I intend (won’t promise) to send a monthly report to you following our board meeting. Of course, if something special occurs, we will let you know. Our first meeting was January 9, and it was an active one.

IBC’s financial stability is at the top of the list. We are not out of the woods but do see the clearing. With the support from the Covid Recovery Fund Drive, 2022 will close “in the black.” The board voted to approve the 2023 budget as proposed by the Finance Committee (based on the business plan sent to you earlier). A copy of the budget will be posted on the main bulletin board. To date, we have 360 annual dues paid members and think we will reach the goal of 400. Please pay if you have not.

A 2023 budget planning priority was not to count on pleas for donations, so no amount was allocated to Donations in the Revenue Budget. However, and this is important, more than 20 people have given Sharon donations of $50 for a special fund for those that circumstances prevent their paying the annual dues and/or those who must reduce their number of games due to the increased game fee.  If you or someone you know is in this situation, please speak to Sharon, knowing that it will be strictly confidential between the two of you. We want to help to keep you playing at IBC as much as possible.

Joe Hibner, regretfully, resigned from the board, and we elected Eric Linton to fill the vacancy for one year.  Eric is also our new treasurer replacing the big shoes of Mary Jo Erdberg.

The Manger’s Report contained lots of good news. She announced the Player Awards: Max Arora, Player of the Month, and Bob Young, Rookie of the Month – congrats to both.  The New Year’s Eve Party was a great ending for 2022 and kickoff to 2023 with 56 and many of them were new members/players. Most importantly, everyone had a good time.

Big congratulations to Wagner “Van” van Vlack for achieving EMERALD LIFE MASTER. Information about his celebration party is forthcoming.

New classes are under way with continued positive numbers and feedback. Again, our education program and the quality of our teachers are keys to IBC’s success. Please say “thank you” to all of them!!!

We used some time to focus on our committee structure and the purpose/goals of each. The 2023 IBC Board Committees and Chairs are: Executive (Andie Marshall); Finance (Joe Shierling); Education (Matt Cory); Communications and Marketing (Katherine Miller); Membership (Pam Rhine); and Facilities (Howard Anderson). You can expect to hear requests for volunteers from some of them in the near future😊.

Bet this is WTMI but want you to be informed and included. Thank you for all you give and do to help meet our Vision of being “the best bridge center in the country and a welcoming community….”

Andie Marshall, IBC Board President
