Board Meeting Update

From IBC Board President, Andie Marshall:

I am in Pentwater, Michigan, to celebrate our 45th Homecoming there with family and our grandson’s 7th birthday so this will be a “bullet point” report.

I do hope many of you were able to play in yesterday’s Open Game to honor David Bruckman for achieving Gold Life Master status! Next Wednesday, August 16, will be a Gold Life Master Party for John Peer.  Player of the Month for July was Bob Lyon and Rookie of the Month was Jan Kilies.  More parties to come and congratulations to all!

F2F table count for July was 491 or 1964 players – amazing! Income continues to exceed expenses. The new member number continues to grow.  Thank you for playing!

Special Games:

  • Our second Rubber Bridge Tournament was today at 1:00.  We are now charging $5; number of points players can have has been reduced from 50 to 20; and, since we are charging, we no longer can get free advertising in “Nextdoor.” So numbers are about half of the first game but we still had nine tables and are optimistic for the future of this game.
  • Five Buck Up games remain for Open Games on the first Wednesday of the month and for the Tuesday and Thursday games.
  • September 7 is Opening Party for Women’s Contract Club (free Mimosas) at Woodstock Country Club.  Members’ invitations are in the mail.  Women with over 50 points should contact Debra Vance ( if interested in joining; it is not too late.Click here for the WCC game calendar.
  • Sharon is planning a BIG party to celebrate those couples who have formed their special relationships through IBC and their love of bridge.  Watch for more details.

Education and Communication:

  • Danny Hibner’s first class for non-card players had 10 and it looks like they all will return for class two.
  • Free Beginner Bridge  class starts Sunday, August 27 and already over 49 have registered.
  • Matt Cory is offering a two-session class on Flannery on Tuesday, August 22 and 29, from 2:15-4:15, for $20 per class.
  • Watch Joyce Pepple’s Sunday night email, the newsletter, and website for class updates and details so you can promote our education program.
  • MENTORING PROGRAM starts Saturday, September 9.  Talk to Matt or Sharon if you are interested in being a mentor or would like to be mentored.

Want your active participation in 2024:

  • Volunteer to be on the Nominating Committee to recruit board candidates; contact me.
  • Let a board member know if you are interested/ willing to serve a three-year term on the board. Click here to view the expectations for IBC board members.
  • Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 4, for the IBC Annual Membership Meeting.

As always, thank you for helping us to try to make IBC the “best bridge center in the United States.”
Andie Marshall, IBC Board President
